THE PRODUCTION

Romeo & Juliet will be Valley Drama School's first main stage production. Shakespeare's classic tragedy contains some of the most beautiful and lyrical poetry ever written in the English language. We plan to bring this accessible and thrilling story to life in a spectacular new production at the Al Whittle Theatre.

Our company of creative and talented actors, set designers, directors, and stage managers is made up of a diverse range of community members from Wolfville and Halifax. The dedication and passion of this collective of artists is second to none. Wolfville is in for a stunning theatrical experience; with a combination of classical poetry, Elizabethan music and dancing, professional stage combat, and a unique cast of characters, this production is sure to be a memorable and powerful evening for audiences.

SUPPORT THE ARTS

Cultural events are an important part of active living. For our members onstage and off, involvement in the creative and dynamic environment of live theatre strengthens life and social skills. It is a fun and intellectually stimulating form of exercise and self-expression, positively impacting all aspects of life. For audience members, watching live theatre brings the community together and can promote personal reflection, or distract from life’s daily challenges. Live theatre provides an opportunity for audience members to take a break from the computer/t.v. screen and explore broad social issues and the human experience. It facilitates accessing emotions not often explored, leading to benefits of comprehending and empathizing with others.

STRATFORD FESTIVAL

In order to ensure authenticity and quality in our costuming for this challenging time period, we will be renting costumes from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario. This wonderful opportunity has added substantially to our budget, which is why we are asking for your generous support. We will be renting ladies' Elizabethan gowns, men's doublets, capes, pants, and hats.

It is very important to us, for a production of this scale, that we be committed to historically accurate and detailed costumes, as well as props and set design.
